Dayea was still in shock over the captain's announcement and had decided she wasn't going to discuss his decision immediately. But as the meeting adjourned she found it was impossible to simply let lie so she watched her CO make his way to the ready room. After a moment she stepped over and waited to be invited in.

Tobias no sooner took his seat when he heard the chime. With a slight growl in his voice he said, "Enter."

As expected the captain wasn't happy to be disturbed but it did nothing to deter her from her mission. So after a deep breath she stepped through and stood at attention before her CO's desk. "Forgive me for disturbing you, sir. If this is a bad time it can wait." though the offer hung there, the scientist didn't budge, instead simply stared at Cook, her brow cocked slightly, the emotions in the room beginning to rise once again between them.

Tobias was taken back at the sight of Dayea standing there. "It as good a time as any. What can I do for you?"

"I simply have a question. Why? Why did you make me your second officer when it's apparent to me that you are not comfortable having me on the ship let alone in the chain of command." she stood there awaiting his response.

Feeling the tension Tobias stood from his chair. "It seemed to be the logical choice. I may be reluctant to place you in such a role simply because our time together has been limited. AND if you are not wanting to take the role, I am sure I can find another suiter."

Tobias straightened his uniform as he awaited her response.

"Not wanting it does not play into it, sir. I am simply shocked by your decision. Our limited interaction is a suitable reason for looking to someone else to fulfill the roll of second officer." his discomfort from palatable in that it added to her own. It was odd that they would have such a reaction to each other but she really didn't have the time to investigate it. Dayea simply wanted an explanation from him.

"If I felt you were inadequate for the job Lieutenant, I would have made a different decision. I feel the decision is a sound one."

He retook his seat. "Is there more you would like to say?"

"No, sir. Simply that I do not sense the confidence you state you have. As I said I get the impression you'd be happier having me elsewhere on the ship. You are not comfortable with me and I am not certain why that is. Whether it be the fact that I'm a Trill or some other reason I have yet to fathom." Dayea stated with conviction not understanding why she just couldn't allow the subject to drop.

"Lieutenant, sometimes humans are not as open as other species. The bottom line is I think you will do fine. The lack of confidence may be coming from you and not me." Tobias knew that would get a rise, not an intentional one, but a rise nonetheless. He had to admit the fire she was displaying in her passion for answers made him more satisfied with his decision to make her second officer. That and she was becoming more appealing to him in other ways, ways he should not give in to.

Her eyes flared at his comment, both in anger and confusion not certain how to really argue the point he was making, "Sir I have been empathic my entire life and can tell the difference between emotional states as well as who is giving said states off." though her voice remained calm the fire in her gaze was all but, it was then she sensed his attraction for her and found herself reacting to it, realising it echoed her own. "I believe it to be very logical to question the CO for decision when they are illogical. Am I not correct?" she was challenging him and was hoping he'd take the bait.

"Yes it is correct. However I do not see my recent course of action in promoting you to be as you call it...illogical." Tobias sensed this was becoming more of an argument rather then an explanation session. "Lieutenant, perhaps it is best for us to stop deliberating the recent change and accept the change and go with it. The crew will be fine with the selection as am I."

Nodding reluctantly the newly minted 2/O said, "Aye, sir. And I will endeavour to perform my duties to my up most ability." at one point she swore their conversation had threatened to become somewhat heated but all at once the flame had been doused and they were now back to being purely professional.

Tobias stood from his chair. "If there is nothing else Lieutenant...."

"Aye, sir." for a moment they eyed each other, almost reluctant to end the conversation. But in the end the science chief tilted her head in acquiescence and turned to leave.

Tobias watched her leave as he tried to regain control of his thoughts and the mission at hand.
