5: Double Edge – Engineer Down

ON
For some reason or another the ship's chief engineer had a problem with marines and wanted a fight. A few marines and engineers had come to cheer for one or the other down in the gym, a few makeshift seats lined either side of the sparring mat for the onlookers, now they just needed the fighters.
Daniel was the first down, he had put on the standard PT uniform and was waiting around on the mat for the angry engineer. He was going to make sure that by the end of it, he'd know the guys problem and have it straightened out one way or the other. "Walk into engineering nice and calm, meet a brick wall and a fight" he said to himself.
In Renfro walked making beeline for the marine, Renfro was wing his uniform minus his gold shirt, his bare torso showing some scars as near the edge of the Mat shouted " Let's go jarhead, the few the proud the chumps!"
"As you wish" Daniel answered, then stood his ground, he had fought plenty of wild people before and despite what one might think; an untrained maniac was much more dangerous than a trained one. At least a trained one would be to an extent predictable, one who hadn't been too thoroughly covered in warfare would do just about anything.
With out so much as another Renfro reached out gapped Daniel's head and deliver 4 lighting quick knee strikes to marine's, followed by a vicious uppercut the Engineers cheered wildly and in the back ground you hear some one giving odds and taking bets.
Daniel didn't waste another minute playing nice, he faded out of existence and backed off away from the engineer a few steps, silent enough that not even the ship's sensors would spot him. He moved around to the engineer's side and punched him in the ribs as hard as he could followed by a quick move and kick in the back to send the engineer to the deck.
Despite the pain from Daniel's kick Renfro didn't waste time he drew back his right and all the force he summon kicked Daniel in the left knee dropping the marine like a ton of bricks "not so cocky now!!" he yelled to the silencing of the Marines cheers.
Several feet away Daniel faded back for an instant, "this fight was your idea and I had asked rather nicely for help." he said before once more disappearing and now keeping his distance, putting the target out of striking range while he worked on a good plan of attack.
"Nice parlor trick, since when do Jarheads hide, or run from a fight." he said listing for any hind of the marine’s movement.
Daniel worked around behind the engineer and then kicked him in the back of the kness followed by a swift hit in the middle of his back as the engineer went down. A simple move meant to get a target down on the ground at the least away from attacking any time soon. As soon as the target was down, the marine once more pulled back. Wear him down bit by bit and avoid having to drag his rear into sickbay at the end of it all.
As Renfro slowly got back to his feet he shouted "what's matter Jarhead afair you'll lose a fair fight, what hapened to the few, the pround!!"
After he had once more gotten out of his target's range, "we're few, we're proud and I'm no idiot" Daniel said, he dropped to all fours, if this engineer wanted him to take the direct approach instead of wearing him down, then so be it.
Renfro was no idot either he motioned for crowd to be be quiet so he had a beeter chance of hearing the Marine moving about and then he should be able to gagae the distants.
Well, the marines standing around, rockhead or eggheads cared about as much for what the engineer wanted as they did the enemy. Their cheers actually picked up to cover for the other crewmens' silence. It seemed they'd make noise, noise and more noise until they couldn't anymore; that wouldn't be for a long time.
Daniel circled his target, slow and silent as he'd been trained. During his training they'd had sensors reading out noise and he had required them to push those sensors a bit past their normal settings; today would be no different. After a few seconds he lined up and charged the engineer, tackling him to the ground and then following it up with one of the many holds that were only present in the marines.
Renfro from experience with his brother guessed what hold Daniel was using broke the hold and applied an arm bar submission maneuver and taunted Daniel "Give it up jarhead you can't win." With that a smile papered on his face this was the first time anyone had seen him smile since he came on board.
"Like hell" Daniel said, he still had a few more tricks to pull. He concentrated for a second and then an enormously bright light shot out behind him at the engineer, it was just redirecting the light that hit him and there was more there than most people thought. He ducked, turned and then decked the chief engineer as hard as he could, aiming to knock a few teeth out.
The engineer fell to the deck, his head twisted at an odd, unnatural angle. Immediately the medics on either side of the gym ran onto the mat, stretchers and tricorders in hand; pretty quickly after that they were double-timing it towards sickbay.
Inside, no doctors were in-sight, which left one option. "Computer, activate the EMH!" Daniel called as he followed alongside the stretcher inside. The doctor shimmered into existence just as the engineer was being slipped onto a waiting biobed in the surgical bay.
The EMH shifted to life as the doctor stood in front. "How may I be of help today Captain?"
"Well, we've got a crewmen down over there" Daniel said, pointing to the biobed, "we were in a fight down in the gym, had medics with us. I just got him good across the head before he went down."
"I see. Based on the readings I have at the moment this man has suffered a severe neck injury, possibly some long term nerve damage and will need to be monitored until we return to the starbase. Is there anything else I can assist with?"
"Not that I know of, he didn't do much to me" Daniel answered, the engineer hadn't done much to the marine, he just hoped the engineer would recover.
"I am sure he will be fine sir."
